June 23rd, 2009 marks the 18th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, one of the biggest, most memorable classic series in gaming. Having transcended multiple forms of media throughout the years, the blue hedgehog is still going strong even almost twenty years from his creation, and so today, we raise our glasses to one of the most iconic faces of gaming and culture as a whole; here's to you, Sonic!

Happy birthday Sonic! My main inspiration for a lot of the things I want to do in the future...here's to hopefully being able to work on one of your titles one day *shot*.

Still, fond 17 year memories I've had with you. Been playing since I was only 2 years old =P

Mega Man is older.

Indeed he is. I love him all the same, even in his old age.

Oh no, I missed it! I'm so sorry, Sonic! I really don't have any excuse... I must have fallen asleep in my workshop... please forgive me!

I... um... baked you a cake but it... maybe... sort of... exploded. Maybe I shouldn't have used my welding oven for it, eh-heh.

I guess what I really wanted to say is thank you for being the best big brother anyone could ask for, for all these years. You're the best, Sonic! I promise I won't miss it again next year! *Sweatdrop*

Eggman huffed and crossed his arms, making a slight scowl at the small crowd.

"...It was someone else's birthday too, you know."

The diminutive fox blinked up at Eggman, unfazed by his arrival.

Really? Who else?

There was no trace of sarcasm in his voice. It was a genuine question.

I hope they show up! The more people, the better!

Eggman faltered slightly in response to the question.

"...Bah! Never mind! Enjoy your little celebration for now!"

And so he stormed away, like a child who was denied a shiny new toy he wanted, grumbling all the way. What was that all about, then?

The young pilot watched Eggman skulk off, and couldn't help feeling like he'd inadvertantly upset the doctor somehow, 'though he couldn't imagine how. How odd. He also felt like maybe he should have remembered something relating to that... but oh well.

More importantly, where was Sonic?

It's not like him to be late for a party... I hope he didn't forget his own birthday!

Happy birthday Sonic and, more importantly, the Good Doctor! *slinks off after him*
